Rain dampens India-England warm-up match in Guwahati

Image
The much-anticipated World Cup warm-up clash between hosts India and defending champions England was marred by rain on Saturday, resulting in the match being abandoned without a single ball being bowled. India's captain, Rohit Sharma, won the toss and chose to bat first, but persistent rain in the northeastern Indian city of Guwahati led to a prolonged delay, ultimately forcing the cancellation of the match. England, under the leadership of Jos Buttler, is now hoping for improved weather conditions as they prepare for their second warm-up encounter against Bangladesh at the same venue on Monday. Meanwhile, India is set to face the Netherlands in their second warm-up match in Thiruvananthapuram. However, this venue has also experienced rain and a washout, adding to the unpredictability caused by the weather. The 50-over showpiece event is scheduled to kick off in Ahmedabad, with England squaring off against New Zealand at the world's largest cricket stadium. via Origina

World Cup 2023: Pakistan set 346-run target for New Zealand in warm-up match

Image
An all-round display by the Pakistani batters allowed the Green Shirts to post 345 runs on the scoreboard during the first innings against New Zealand in a warm-up match in Hyderabad, India, on Friday. Mohammad Rizwan top-scored for his side by scoring an astounding knock of 103 runs off 93 which included 11 boundaries. Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, was the second top-scorer as he scored 80 off 84 and with 10 boundaries. Left-handed middle-order batter Saud Shakeel impressed everyone with a solid display with the bat. The 28-year-old contributed to 75 runs with nine boundaries at an impressive strike rate of 141.51. On the other hand, the Kiwis’ skipper Kane Williamson will only feature as a batter as he continues to recover from a knee injury. It must be noted that the warm-up matches will consist of 50 overs per side. However, these matches won't have ODI status because teams will have the flexibility to include all 15 members of their squad in the playing XI. The game

Amazing health benefits of eating yoghurt every day!

Image
Yoghurt, favourite among kids as well as adults, is considered a superfood because it has innumerable health benefits. Yoghurt is rich in nutrients. It is an amazing source of proteins and calcium. It also contains B complex vitamins, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium. It improves metabolism and provides a feeling of satiety. How is Yoghurt is Made? Made from bacterial fermentation of milk, it is this very process that provides it with beneficial properties. Probiotics like Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus are used to make yoghurt. They ferment milk and convert the lactose in milk to lactic acid. PCB chief Zaka Ashraf makes terrifying remark about India ahead of ODI World Cup 2023

Image
A video showing Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Zaka Ashraf referring to India as “dushman mulk” (enemy nation) has gone viral on social media as Pakistan players enjoy warm welcomes in India as they are one of the countries taking part in the World Cup 2023. On September 27, the Pakistan cricket squad arrived in Hyderabad and was greeted enthusiastically by Indian spectators. Many Pakistani athletes, notably the team’s captain Babar Azam expressed appreciation for the welcome they got in India. On the other hand, a video of PCB head Ashraf making the statement about the adversary country has been doing a lot of talking on social media. He said in the video, “Players hain inka morale upar rehna chahiye jab ye kisi dushman mulk ya kisi bhi jagah khelne jaayen jahan wo competition ho raha ho, to they should go with the full support of the nation aur unko ek achche tarike se perform kar saken.” [When the players go to an enemy country or where the competition is being held, yo

How to Get Rid of Dandruff

Image
If you're avoiding all of your dark clothing, and a hat has suddenly become a necessary accessory, it might be time to face the facts: You have dandruff. It's annoying, it's frustrating and it's embarrassing, but the good news is that it's not that hard to get rid of. Dandruff is not contagious, and it's usually not caused by anything too serious. In fact, the most common cause of those flakes is dry skin. You might also notice dandruff if you're not washing your hair often enough — without frequent shampooing, the oil and skin cells can build up on your scalp and eventually flake off. Of course, dandruff can also be an indicator of more serious skin conditions. In many people, seborrheic dermatitis — a condition marked by oily, irritated skin — can cause flaky skin on the scalp and on other areas of the body. Allergies to hair care or scalp care products (also called contact dermatitis) and psoriasis are other contributors to dandruff, as is an excess

World Cup 2023: Pakistan opt to bat against New Zealand in warm-up match

Image
Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and decided to bat first against New Zealand in the first warm-up match of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Hyderabad. Like in past ICC Cricket World Cup tournaments, the warm-up matches will consist of 50 overs per side. However, these matches won't have ODI status because teams will have the flexibility to include all 15 members of their squad in the playing XI. According to New Zealand Cricket, Williamson will only feature as a batter in today's first warm-up match against Pakistan in Hyderabad, with the aim of batting and fielding in Monday's second and final warm-up against South Africa in Trivandrum. Tom Latham will lead New Zealand in today’s first warm-up match as a result. It must be noted that the game will be held without spectators. This decision comes in response to recommendations from local security authorities in Hyderabad, the match's designated venue, coinciding with ongoing festivals in the area. On the same day

‘I even wore cricket pads in bed’: How Shaheen rose to greatness

Image
As a young boy in a family of seven cricket-mad brothers, Pakistan pace bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi immersed himself in the sport – even when sleeping. “I used to come home after training and he would take my pads and somehow wear them to bed,” said elder brother Riaz, a decent player himself with one Test cap to his name. “He would place the stumps next to his pillow and dream of playing,” he told an international news agency. Pakistan’s hopes of winning the World Cup in India will rely heavily on the lanky 23-year-old Shaheen turning those dreams into reality. The team was recently deposed as the world’s top-ranked ODI side by India, and a less-than-stellar performance in the recent rain-hit Asia Cup won by their bitter cross-border rivals has some fans questioning the side’s commitment and ability. Nobody can doubt Shaheen’s devotion to the sport, however. Hailing from Landi Kotal – a town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province – Shaheen dedicated himself to cricket as soon as he coul

Touchdown Hyderabad: Pakistan squad lands in India for World Cup

Image
The Pakistan squad landed in India’s Hyderabad on Wednesday to participate in the ICC World Cup 2023. The national team flew to India via Dubai and landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. A video shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) showed the squad exiting the plane. Confirming the development, the Press Trust of India said this is Pakistan’s first visit to the neighbouring country in seven years. The Green Shirts previously traveled to India in 2016 for the T20 world cup. The Indian government had on Monday issued visas for the Pakistan squad after multiple delays. The development came after the PCB wrote a letter to the International Cricket Council expressing concerns over the visa issue. Pakistan will play two warm-up matches — against New Zealand on Sept 29 and Australia on Oct 3. Earlier, the team was scheduled to leave for Dubai on Sept 25 and stay there for two days. Pakistan will play their first match against the Netherlands on Oct 6. The 15-member squ

Fast bowler Haris Rauf sees ‘Pakistan in the World Cup final’

Image
Pakistan paceman Haris Rauf, on the eve of the national team’s departure to India, has made a bold claim even before the showpiece, that he sees Pakistan in the final of the ICC World Cup. “I don’t know which teams will be the semi-finalists of the World Cup but I see Pakistan in the final,” Haris said while addressing a press conference arranged by the Pakistan Cricket Board ahead of the squad’s departure to India scheduled for Tuesday-Wednesday via Dubai. Two other members of the World Cup squad, namely Abdullah Shafique and Salman Ali Agha, also addressed press conferences separately. It may be mentioned here that earlier the PCB had announced that Imam-ul-Haq, Hasan Ali, Haris and Salman will address the pressers. However, neither Imam nor Hasan turned up as Haris, Abdullah and Salman came up to answer the questions. The media personnel had to wait for more than an hour for the players who came late because of the shooting for the ICC in connection with the World Cup promotio

Anti-Covid drug may have led to virus mutations: study

Image
An anti-Covid drug widely used across the world may have caused mutations in the virus, researchers said on Monday, but there was no evidence that the changes had led to more dangerous variants. Pharmaceutical giant Merck’s antiviral pill molnupiravir was one of the earliest treatments rolled out during the pandemic to prevent Covid becoming more severe in vulnerable people. The drug, which is taken orally over a five-day course, works mainly by creating mutations in the virus with the goal of weakening and killing it. However, a new UK-led study has shown that molnupiravir “can give rise to significantly mutated viruses which remain viable,” lead author Theo Sanderson said. Sanderson, a geneticist at London’s Francis Crick Institute, emphasised that there is no evidence that “molnupiravir has to date created more transmissible or more virulent viruses.” None of the variants that have swept the world were due to the drug, he added. But “it is very difficult to predict whether moln

Babar breaks silence on alleged dressing-room spat with Shaheen

Image
Pakistan captain Babar Azam has denied rumours of rift with star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi during the pre-departure press conference ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023 in India. Azam said that the entire team is like a family after reports in local media stated that the duo had a fight in the team meeting following Pakistan's exit from the Asia Cup 2023. “Everyone respects each other in the team,” Azam said. “It was a normal meeting but it was portrayed as if we had a fight. There was no such thing as we love each other like a family.” “I’m very excited to play in Ahmedabad. It is the biggest stadium in the world and will be jam-packed for the India-Pakistan clash,” he said. “I will try to perform to the best of my ability. I can’t exactly tell you how I will do since I’m not an astrologer.” “I’m not worried about my performance. I always try to perform in a manner which suits the team,” he added. “We want to improve our fielding and do better in the middle overs,” he said. “Yo

Why you should never leave your toothbrush in the bathroom

Image
Where do you store your toothbrush? If the answer is in your bathroom, you might want to think again. Cleaning your teeth and keeping on top of your dental care means your mouth and gums will be healthier, hygienic, whiter and fresher. But regardless of whether you use the best electric toothbrush or a manual brush, where you store it could be messing with your dental hygiene. According to dentists, “storing your toothbrush in the bathroom can potentially expose it to various hygiene concerns.” Here’s three reasons why you should never leave your toothbrush in the bathroom and where you should actually store it. 1. Bacteria Even if you regularly clean and take care of your bathroom, there will always be bacteria lying on the surfaces. The bathroom is where you shower, wash your face, use the toilet and clean your teeth, so bacteria will be present, especially aerosolized bacteria. Dentists say, “when you flush the toilet, tiny water droplets containing bacteria and other microorg

Pak-NZ World Cup warmup game in India to be played behind closed doors

Image
The BCCI has officially announced that Pakistan's first ICC Men's World Cup 2023 warm-up match against New Zealand, scheduled for September 29, will be held without spectators. This decision comes in response to recommendations from local security authorities in Hyderabad, the match's designated venue, coinciding with ongoing festivals in the area. The simultaneous celebration of these festivals is expected to draw large crowds, necessitating the precautionary measure of playing the match behind closed doors. For those who have already purchased tickets for this fixture, the official ticketing platform for the tournament will issue full refunds. This match marks the initial encounter in a pair of warm-up games for Pakistan ahead of the main tournament. Pakistan's second warm-up match will take place on Tuesday, October 3, against Australia. On the same day as Pakistan's match against New Zealand, two other warm-up games are scheduled: Bangladesh will face Sri

Babar Azam fined for violating traffic rules Lahore

Image
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was fined by the traffic police on Monday for not having a driver’s licence and a lane violation. According to the traffic police, the national cricket team skipper was fined Rs2,000 on September 17 in Lahore’s Gulberg. Police officials said that Babar was first stopped for lane violation but after he was questioned, they learnt that he was driving without a licence. The national team skipper is preparing to lead the Pakistan team in next month’s cricket World Cup in India. The team was facing an uncertain situation due to a delay in the issuance of their visa by the Indian government. However, the uncertainty surrounding Pakistan's participation in the World Cup ended as India finally issued visas to the Pakistan team earlier today, the governing International Cricket Council (ICC) said. The ICC's confirmation came after the complaints of a delay in the process of visa issuance. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had written to the governing b

PCB confirms Indian govt has issued visas for Pakistan

Image
After multiple delays, the Indian government on Monday issued visas for the Pakistan squad, enabling them to travel to the neighbouring country for the World Cup, Pakistan Cricket Board spokesperson Umar Farooq confirmed. “Finally received a call from the Indian High Commission to collect the passports,” he said. Farooq added that the national team would leave for India tomorrow via Dubai. The development comes hours after the PCB raised concerns with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding “extraordinary delays” in the issuance of Indian visas. “We have written to ICC raising our concerns about inequitable treatment towards Pakistan and reminding them of these obligations towards the World Cup. “It’s a matter of disappointment that the Pakistan team has to go through the uncertainty ahead of the major tournament.” Farooq said the board had been reminding the ICC about obligations for the last three years but it had all come down to the last two days with the national

Babar Azam’s father reacts gracefully to disgraced pacer Asif’s claim

Image
Disgraced pacer, Mohammad Asif, made some noteworthy claims during a X, formerly known as Twitter, space session on Friday night. During the session, Asif asserted that he played a pivotal role in selecting Pakistan's current captain, Babar Azam, during cricket trials when Babar was just starting his career. "I selected Babar Azam in the trials after he faced two balls only, you can ask his father that I picked Babar in ZTBL trials. I rate highly, he is one of the best batters in the country but he plays dots in the power-play and puts pressure on Rizwan," Asif said in an X space. "I can bowl a maiden over to Babar Azam in T20 cricket even today, he cannot hit the ball if you bowl good deliveries to him," he added. In response to Asif's claims, Babar Azam's father, Azam Siddiqui, shared an intriguing anecdote about his son's early cricketing journey on his Instagram account. Siddiqui recounted a time when Babar, at the age of 16, faced off aga

5 types of eye infections that you should be aware of

Image
Eye infections affect millions of people per year and can often require a visit to the doctor. Although they may have similar symptoms, infections vary in their causes. This can include bacterial or fungal infection, a virus, or even caring for your contacts improperly. It’s important to know the signs of an eye infection so you can contact the doctor immediately. 1. Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) Conjunctivitis occurs when the clear layer that covers your eye and lines your eyelid (the conjunctiva) becomes infected or inflamed. This causes the small blood vessels in the membrane to become more visible, resulting in the whites of your eyes taking on a pink or reddish color. The infected eye or eyes may also feel itchy or gritty. You may experience more tearing as well as discharge. This discharge turns into a crust overnight and can make it difficult to open the affected eye or eyes in the morning. Also known as pink eye, conjunctivitis has two main causes — a viral infection or bact

Hasaranga, Chameera likely to miss ICC World Cup 2023: Report

Image
Sri Lankan star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga and fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera are likely to miss the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 in India, commencing on October 5. According to media reports, Wanindu Hasaranga suffered a hamstring injury during the Eliminator game between B-Love Kandy and Jaffna Kings in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) last month. He was then ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023, and now may require surgery, after aggravating his hamstring tear during rehab over the past few days. The chairman of Sri Lanka’s medical committee, Arjuna de Silva, hinted that it is highly unlikely for Hasaranga to participate in the ICC World Cup 2023. “He picked up a grade 2 tear in the LPL, but he re-aggravated it during rehab. It’s now a grade 3 tear. What also complicates the matter is that it is also a T-junction hamstring injury,” said Arjuna de Silva. “We are consulting foreign doctors to see whether he needs surgery or not. If he does, he will be out for at least three months.

Hashim Amla predicts semi-finalists of ICC World Cup

Image
Legendary South African batter Hashim Amla predicted the semi-finalists for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 in India. The former right-hander believes India, Pakistan, South Africa and England will make the final four in the mega event. Earlier, former West Indies opener Chris Gayle also revealed his semi-finalists for the event. The Universe Boss believes that Pakistan, India, England and New Zealand will qualify for the knockout stage. The 43-year-old, during an interview, also said that since the India-Pakistan match is watched by the entire world due the rivalry between the two countries, players from both teams should demand a lot more money from the ICC. "Whenever those teams [India and Pakistan] play, especially in a World Cup, the revenues they generate are humongous. One game can take care of the entire ICC event,” Gayle said. The ICC World Cup 2023 will take place in India with 10 teams fighting for the elusive title across 10 venues from October 5 to November 19

How does sun exposure affect skin?

Image
Ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause damage to your skin and it’s DNA, resulting in early aging and an increased risk of skin cancer. It doesn’t have to be sunny either, and UV damage is possible on overcast days too. Sunshine can have both positive and negative effects on your skin, depending on the amount of exposure and protective measures taken. Here's a breakdown: Positive effects: Vitamin D production: Sunlight is a natural source of vitamin D, which is essential for overall health. When your skin is exposed to UVB rays from the sun, it can produce vitamin D, which plays a crucial role in calcium absorption and bone health. But you only need a little sun to give you all the Vitamin D you need. So, stay out of the sun when it’s hottest, and get a little sunshine in the cooler times of the day –particularly in winter, when Vitamin D levels can get low! Sunshine also helps you create Vitamin D which is important for mood, immunity and bone strength. Negative effects: Sunb

Inzamam says 'doors not closed' for Mohammad Amir

Image
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has clarified that it has not "closed the doors" for Mohammad Amir, who retired in 2020 from international cricket after a row with the cricketing body's officials. "Everyone is aware that Amir is a very good cricketer. He took retirement. But if he wants to play for Pakistan, then the doors are open for everyone," Pakistan Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said in a presser Friday. The chief selector asked players if they wished to be included in the national team, they needed to perform well in the domestic leagues. Haq mentioned that neither the selection committee nor the cricket board closes doors for any player. "If any player wants to represent Pakistan, they should perform in first class cricket. If they perform in it, they will be considered regardless of who they are, even Mohammad Amir." The chief selector's statement came during his press conference in Lahore, where he announced a 15-man squad for the

How to remove stains from white clothing

Image
Successfully removing a stain from white clothing depends on what you do and what you don't do. Before trying to clean the garment, always check the garment's care label. It's important to act fast before the stain can set. Here are some ways to remove stains from white clothing: Use a knife to scrape or scoop up any excess food. Blot up liquids with a clean white cloth, starting from the outer edge of the stain and working inward. Dab a cloth soaked in cool water, with or without a nontoxic dish washing liquid, on the stain. Be careful not to spread or smear the stain. Sprinkle cornstarch on oily stains, wait 10 to 15 minutes and then scrape it up. Repeat if necessary. Finish by dabbing the area with a solution of water and hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice or white vinegar (it's best to test it on a hidden area of the garment), and then rinse the spot. Presoak the garment in nontoxic detergent or oxygen bleach before laundering. Note: The above suggestions are o

The warmup game for the cricket World Cup 2023 between Pakistan and New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in the Indian city of Hyderabad on September 29 will be played behind closed doors, according to local media reports. According to The Indian Express, the match would be played with no fans in attendance after the police had asked the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) to postpone the tie due to security concerns because the police would focus on religious festivals that culminate on September 28. With the schedule being rigid, the officials decided barring the entry for the spectators, the publication reported. Those who hold tickets for the match will be issued refunds, according to the Indian Express report published on Monday. “The game will be played without spectators and those who have booked their tickets, their money will be refunded,” a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official told The Indian Express. “Discussions have been going on fo

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Interim Management Committee head Zaka Ashraf on Thursday attributed the national team’s dismal show in the recently-concluded Asia Cup to the previous board management, accusing them of allowing players to participate in league cricket, which he said resulted in fatigue before national duty. “Discussion revealed that the previous management had allowed a lot of players to play league cricket which caused them fatigue ahead of their national duty,” Ashraf told the important meeting ahead of the announcement of the national team’s squad for the World Cup. The meeting was convened to assess the team’s subpar performance, marked by significant losses to India and Sri Lanka, ultimately resulting in the national side’s exit from the tournament, according to a PCB statement. On Dec 20 last year, Ramiz Raja was the chairman. He was removed by then prime minister and PCB patron Shehbaz Sharif, who had named an 11-member IMC headed by Najam Sethi, which worked

Pat Cummins said that he had fully recovered from a wrist injury and hoped to play all three one-day internationals against hosts India starting Friday. While Cummins returns, Australia still won’t have the services of pacer Mitchell Starc and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for the first match in the northern Indian city of Mohali. “I am feeling pretty good, pretty much 100 percent, and hope to play tomorrow and play all the games,” Cummins told journalists. But the Australian pace spearhead said Starc, who is recovering from a groin injury, and Maxwell, from an ankle injury, won’t play “but will be available later in the series”. Most of Australia’s top players are also key members of different franchises in the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament, and Cummins said they “h
