Image
Former legendary all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi reacted on Sunday to Babar Azam's appointment as the white-ball captain of the Pakistan national cricket team. He rallied behind Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Mohamad Rizwan, saying, "I still believe that if change was necessary, then Rizwan was the best choice!" "But since now the decision has been made, I offer my full support and best wishes to Team Pakistan and Babar Azam." Babar Azam’s father, Azam Siddique on Sunday urged the white-ball captain to respect senior players Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim. Taking to Instagram, Siddique said: “People are saying that there will be no unity in the team under the leadership of Babar Azam. I have explained to Babar Azam to forget what somebody had done in the past.” “I have also told Babar to treat everybody in the team

Can lack of sleep cause hypertension?

Image
A recent study found that sleeping less than seven hours a night is linked to an increased risk of high blood pressure over time. The authors of the study accepted that there is no scientific proof linking sleep patterns to hypertension, or elevated blood pressure. They did, however, note that prior evidence of the association has been inconsistent. The data included incidences of hypertension across follow-up periods ranging from 2 to 18 years (with a median of 5 years) in 1,044,035 individuals in six nations who did not have a history of high blood pressure. The researchers found that even after controlling for demographic and cardiovascular risk factors such as smoking, blood pressure, body mass, index, gender, and age, those who slept for shorter durations of time had a notably increased chance of developing hypertension. For individuals who slept for less than five hours, the correlation was considerably more pronounced. “Based on the most updated data, the less you sleep

Babar Azam meets Chairman PCB amid captaincy rumours

Image
Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam met chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi, amid rumours about change in captaincy of the national side, on Thursday in Lahore. According to media report, Naqvi and Azam had a detailed conversation about the possibility of the latter take charge as captain of the national side once again. It must be noted that Shaheen Afridi replaced Azam as skipper in T20I cricket and Shan Masood in Tests last year. The development comes after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that it will take the decision on Shaheen's future as the captain of the T20I side after the fitness camp, which will conclude on April 8. While talking at a presser after the announcement of the selection committee on March 24, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi didn't talk much on Shaheen's future as captain. "Even I don't know who the captain will be," Naqvi said. "Whether Shaheen continues or a new captain comes in will be determined after

Former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson has been selected in the squad of the United States of America (USA) on Friday for the home T20 series against Canada. The 33-year-old all-rounder, who last played for New Zealand in 2018 before moving to the USA in 2020, is set to make his debut for his adopted country. Corey Anderson became eligible to represent the USA in international cricket last year. He played 13 Tests, 49 ODIs and 31 T20Is for New Zealand since making his debut in 2013, scoring over 2000 runs and taking 90 wickets across formats. 7 soothing home remedies for acne

Image
Acne can be stubborn and seems to pop up at the worst times. The good news is that over-the-counter and prescription medications can zap pimples and help stop new breakouts. The bad news is that some acne products can cause side effects like redness, discoloration, or dryness.[1] For this reason, some people prefer soothing acne at home with natural solutions. Typically, the more mild the acne, the more easily it can be treated at home, says Joshua Zeichner, MD, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. In more severe cases, though — especially if there are cysts or nodules — professional treatments often are necessary. For mild acne, you might be surprised to learn that you already have several acne-soothing remedies in your own home — and in your kitchen of all places. You can mix common foods and ingredients, such as cucumbers, oatmeal, grapes, and yeast, into a facial mask for some acne self-care. A homemade facial may

Babar Azam 'wants captaincy back' across all formats

Image
After scoring most runs in PSL season nine, Pakistan cricket sensation Babar Azam has reportedly asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to appoint him as skipper again in all three formats. Babar was asked by the PCB to become T20I captain, replacing Shaheen Shah Afridi just after one series against New Zealand in January, ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup but the 29-year-old has not yet given any answer to the management, ESPN Cricinfo reported. Following the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2023, Babar was removed from the captaincy from all formats with Shaheen taking the realm of the shorter format and Shan Masood becoming Test captain while no skipper for ODIs was announced. To consider PCB’s request to lead the team in the World Cup, Babar set his terms of becoming the captain of all formats otherwise he will not even consider the offer, as per ESPN Cricinfo. The chairman of PCB Mohsin Naqvi in an earlier press conference stated that he isn’t aware who will be the team’s capta

Feeling older than you actually are? You might need to fix your sleep schedule

Image
Have you ever felt like you aged overnight when you wake up in the morning? Apparently, it does not mean you're crazy but you definitely need to fix your sleep schedule. A recent study by researchers from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden published in the journal, Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, suggests that restless sleep can make you feel up to 10 years older. The researchers carried out two studies to determine whether sleep could impact how old someone feels. The first study, involving 429 participants, found that for each additional sleep, subjective age increased by 0.23 years, as the participants recorded their self-perceived age over 30 days. The second study, where sleep time for 182 participants was limited to four hours per night over two nights, found that this practice increased their age by 4.44 years compared to those who slept nine hours. Both studies found a link between a shift from extremely alert to extremely sleepy state and a

How to smooth out rough skin on your face

Image
Rough, scaly, sandpaper-like skin is bad enough on the elbows, knees, hands and feet. When it shows up on your face, though, you may feel like going into hiding. Not only does the redness make you look perpetually embarrassed, but the pain, itchiness and flaking are also enough to drive you mad. In many cases, a rough complexion is the result of dryness, also known by the fancier term "xerosis." Low humidity levels, sun exposure, harsh soaps, acne treatments and other abrasive factors degrade the skin's natural moisture barrier, leading to peeling, irritation and cracks. Rough skin can also be the symptom of numerous chronic and acute skin conditions. Some of the most widespread problems include: Eczema: Also called dermatitis, eczema causes itchiness, redness, scaling and oozing. Flare-ups are often triggered by allergens and irritants, including dust, chemicals and food. Rosacea: This common skin disease can lead to redness, swelling, visible blood vessels, bum

Researchers reveal healthier way to cook broccoli

Image
Due to its high levels of a particularly beneficial compound called sulforaphane, broccoli has gained a reputation as an excellent vegetable in recent years. It's no wonder that broccoli pills are on the rise, with some early-stage studies showing how this compound plays a role in blood sugar control and potentially even has anti-cancer benefits. A team of Chinese researchers decided to try and find the best way to cook broccoli, when a 2011 study showed that eating the whole vegetable gets you more sulforaphane than taking a supplement. They then reached at a clear winner, publishing their results in 2018, however, it's still a tough sell if you have better things to do with your time. The vegetable contains several compounds called glucosinolates, as sulforaphane doesn't just sit there in the broccoli florets, ready to be consumed. Common broccoli cooking methods, like boiling and microwaving, seriously reduce the amount of glucosinolates in the vegetable, as per t

Shahid Afridi backs Shaheen as T20 captain

Image
Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has voiced his backing for Shaheen Shah Afridi amidst the uncertainty surrounding his tenure as the T20I captain of the national cricket team. Recent reports have emerged that Shaheen might be replaced ahead of the T20 World Cup with Babar Azam assuming the role again. Afridi, who is Shaheen's father-in-law, backed the 24-year-old and stated that a captain should be given ample time to prove his mettle. “I think that if you have appointed someone as captain (Shaheen) and given him the responsibility then give him time as well,” Afridi told the media on Tuesday. “If you change the captain then either the decision to appoint him was wrong or the decision to change him now is wrong,” he added. Remember, Shaheen assumed the role of T20I captain following Babar's departure, subsequent to their disappointing performance at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. However, the left-arm pacer encountered a challenging start to his captainc

Argentina drops Lionel Messi from international friendly against Costa Rica

Image
Argentina captain Lionel Messi will not join his teammates on the field for their international friendly against Costa Rica on Wednesday, Sportstar reported. The 36-year-old soccer legend recently suffered a leg muscle injury which has kept him out of the the international break. Previously, Messi's unfortunate injury kept him out of action for his club Inter Miami. When did Messi suffer leg injury? Earlier this month, the Argentine forward suffered a left ankle twist during Inter Miami's 2-2 draw against Nashville SC in their Concacaf Champions Cup match, leaving him writhing in pain. His ankle twisted after his left leg was kicked in the calf area by an opposing player. After his injury, Messi attempted to get back on the field against DC United in a Major League Soccer clash on March 16. However, he was subbed off in the second-half after scoring a goal as he couldn't bare the pain. "He is overloaded in the right posterior. We don’t want to run a risk. We

Kevin Pietersen credits Kohli for Indian cricketers fitness

Image
Former England batter Kevin Pietersen believed that Virat Kohli’s sublime fitness level has been a source of inspiration for young Indian generation. Kohli starred in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings where the 35-year-old scored 77 runs on 49 balls and guided his team to their first victory of the new season. Pietersen praised Kohli, saying that he will be remembered as one of the greatest finishers of all time before crediting him for turning Indian cricketers into “athletes”. "One of the things that everyone will remember and will create the greatest memories as a player will be him finishing innings and being one the greatest finishers of all time,” Pietersen said in an interview. “One of the things that he has done for Indian cricket is he has turned Indian cricketers into athletes, out-and-out athletes, and while doing so, he's not just talked the talk. He has walked the walk, and you can s

Are some foods bad for my lips?

Image
If you loved indulging in that delicious, decadent meal at the restaurant, but later find the food has adversely affected your lips, you're probably not alone. Several kinds of foods can irritate the sensitive skin on your lips, whether briefly or more permanently. As for temporary irritations, spicy foods might bother your lips or cause them to burn. Salty foods such as potato chips or popcorn might dry out your lips if you eat too much. And any food that sticks to your lips and causes you to lick them repeatedly can dry them out further, because saliva can dry out your skin's natural moisture. But these are short-term problems with simple fixes. Drink milk to negate the spicy food's heat or water to add back moisture -- or just avoid the problem food. But if your lip irritation is more frequent or long-lasting, you might be among a small percentage of people with a food allergy. About 4 percent of adults and 6 to 8 percent of young children have allergic reactions t

You can now use phones for long hours without worrying about getting cancer

Image
Great news for the younger generation as they can now use mobile phones for as long as they like withput worrying about a potential risk of brain cancer, Daily Mail reported. Experts have long advised against using mobile phones excessively, pointing out potential health risks associated with prolonged usage of phones. Young individuals who spend the most of their days on their phones have had mixed opinions about this professional warning. The warning was the result of concerns that electromagnetic waves from phones were a danger to health. However, the 17-year international study led by Imperial College London and Sweden’s Karolinska Institute, found no link to increased risk of brain cancer. The study followed 250,000 mobile users, including those who used their phone for extended periods to determine if they later developed a tumour. Professor Mireille Toledano, of Imperial College, praised the results as they reflect modern phone usage, with weaker emission of electromagne

Cricket Australia announced on Tuesday the schedule for Pakistan's limited-overs tour towards the end of 2024. The series will include three ODI and as many T20I matches, which will be held in November. The tour, which will mark the start for Australia’s white ball schedule for the summer of 2024-25, will comprise six games in total – three ODIs and as many T20Is – to be played across six venues from 4 to 18 November 2024. Pakistan will be returning to Australia after a gap of nearly 11 months, after having competed in the Benaud-Qadir Trophy, which comprised three Test matches played across Perth, Sydney and Melbourne in December 2023-January 2024. The three-match Dettol Men’s ODI series will begin on 4 November at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. Pakistan and Australia will then play in Adelaide and Perth on 8 and 10 November, respectively. Pakistan last played an ODI series on Australian soil back in 2016, which saw the home-side come out on top. Subsequently, Pakista

Does baking soda whiten teeth?

Image
If you're a low-maintenance type of person, getting white teeth may seem like a bit of a chore. Professional bleaching and whitening kits can be expensive, messy and time-consuming to use. In comparison, baking soda -- something most people already have in their kitchens -- seems like an attractive whitening alternative. But how much difference can this common household product actually make? To get at that answer, let's first take a closer look at the makeup of baking soda, which is really just the common name for sodium bicarbonate. It's produced by bubbling carbon dioxide through a solution of sodium carbonate. This forms crystalline mineral salts -- basically, baking soda crystals -- that are then filtered out of the solution, dried and milled to various particle sizes, depending on how it will be used. Chemically speaking, baking soda is a weak base that is amphoteric, which essentially means it can react with both acids and bases. This quality makes it perfect fo

PCB approaches Luke Ronchi for head coach of men's team

Image
Former New Zealand cricketer Luke Ronchi has been approached by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the role of head coach, according to media reports. The current New Zealand batting coach, Ronchi, has asked for some time before reaching a decision, reports added. Ronchi had refused PCB’s offer last year after which Grant Bradburn was appointed. Ronchi achieved the rare feat of representing both New Zealand, his country of birth, and Australia. The 42-year-old featured in four Tests, 85 ODIs and 33 T20Is after making his limited-overs debut for Australia in 2008. In league cricket, he has played for Guyana Amazon Warriors, Islamabad United, Mumbai Indian and Perth Scorchers. The development comes after Shane Watson, Mike Hesson and Darren Sammy refused to coach the Pakistan team. Watson wants to honour his current coaching and commentary commitments rather than leaving them at a short notice. An Indian Premier League (IPL) commentary stint and head coach of Major League Cri

Pace bowler Mohammad Amir and all-rounder Imad Wasim, who recently came out of retirement, are also included in the camp along with top-order batter Usman Khan. However, Dahani failed to earn a place among the players to attend the camp, which prompted the 25-year bowler to express his displeasure on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). “No regrets for me, as I will still be the fittest bowler even after this camp,” Shahnawaz Dahani posted. The camp is scheduled to commence on March 26 and will conclude on April 8. How does smoking affect skin?

Image
Most people know that smoking is bad for your health. It can increase your risk of cancer, cause problems during pregnancy and make you more likely to suffer from a stroke or heart attack. But even before you experience any of these catastrophic health problems, smoking has already made its mark on you. You can see this impact every time you look in the mirror. When you take a puff, you're causing irreversible damage to your skin. This habit can cause early wrinkles, and it accelerates the overall aging of your skin. After only 10 years of smoking, it's already possible to see the effects in the faces of young adults. Smoking causes wrinkles by narrowing blood vessels in the outer layers of skin. This causes less blood flow and reduces the amount of oxygen and nutrients that can get to the skin. Smoking damages important connective fibers like collagen and elastin, causing permanent wrinkles. This damage doesn't take long to appear -- studies have found that even smok

Are long, hot showers bad for your skin?

Image
It's a cruel world sometimes. The tastiest foods are bad for your health, the finest things are bad for your wallet and long, hot showers, unfortunately, are bad for your skin. But how can something as seemingly benign as hot water cause your skin problems? To answer that question, let's start by taking a look at the structure of your skin. While your skin is made of three layers including the subcutis and the dermis, hot showers affect the outermost layer, the epidermis. The epidermis is mostly composed of skin cells loaded with keratin, the same substance that makes up your hair and nails. These cells, called keratinocytes, not only provide a tough defense against the environment but also help your skin to retain moisture. To help keratinocytes retain the skin's moisture, your body produces a thin layer of oil. Together, the outermost layer of skin cells and oil comprise the stratum corneum, and it's this layer that takes a beating during a hot shower. First, the
