Pakistan beat India by 44-run in U19 Asia Cup

Image
Pakistan U19 opened their ACC U19 Asia Cup campaign with a thrilling 44-run victory over arch-rivals India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Shahzaib Khan’s stellar knock of 159 runs and a disciplined bowling effort of the Pakistani bowlers were pivotal in the win. After Pakistan U19 captain Saad Baig won the toss and elected to bat, openers Shahzaib Khan and Usman Khan put up a solid 130-run partnership, frustrating the Indian bowlers. Usman contributed 60 runs from 94 balls, including six boundaries, before falling to Ayush Mhatre. Mhatre struck again in the next over, dismissing Haroon Arshad (3). Shahzaib, undeterred by the setbacks, built a crucial 71-run partnership with Muhammad Riazullah (27) to take Pakistan to 241 by the 44th over. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals thereafter, Shahzaib anchored the innings with a magnificent 159 off 147 balls, featuring ten sixes and five boundaries. ICC postpones Champions Trophy 2025 board meeting

Image
The International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting scheduled for Saturday (today) regarding the hosting of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 has been postponed. Recent reports indicate that the much-anticipated meeting might be rescheduled for either Sunday or Monday. The delay in the meeting is primarily attributed to the fact that both the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) require additional time to engage in consultations with their respective foreign ministries. For the unversed, the meeting was initially scheduled for November 29. However, this crucial gathering was adjourned without reaching a definitive conclusion regarding the much-anticipated Champions Trophy. The meeting was convened by ICC as a direct response to the BCCI announcing its refusal to send its cricket team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, which is slated to take place during the February-March window of next year. According to sources, during the brief me...

Cabbage soup diet: What you need to know

Image
When winter winds to an end, there are plenty of things to look forward to -- warm weather, blooming flowers, cookouts and the beach. But, for many people, that last item comes with a bit of hesitation. Before you strip down to that bikini, that winter weight has got to go. So when spring and summer are just around the corner, many are looking for a quick fix. That's why the cabbage soup diet has withstood the test of time, outlasting its "fad diet" reputation. The diet lasts one week and is said to result in weight loss of about 10 pounds (4.5 kg). In a short span of time, double-digit losses are possible. Some people, maybe because they became discouraged and unmotivated by the slower results of other diets, swear by the quick cabbage soup diet. After all, participants cut their caloric intake by at least 50 percent, taking in roughly 800 to 1,000 calories a day. The diet isn't by any means appropriate for a lifestyle, but it does help incorporate vegetable and ...

ICC instructs Pakistan, India to find 'solution' amid Champions Trophy deadlock

Image
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has instructed the participants of the meeting including Pakistan and India to come up with a solution regarding the fate of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy after the neighbouring country announced that it will not travel to the host nation. Sources told Geo News that the crucial ICC board meeting, held virtually, spanned just around 15 minutes and was attended by officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). During the meeting, the parties tabled their proposals regarding the holding of the prestigious tournament, with the board instructing the parties to find a solution with "mutual consultation". The sources added that both cricket boards would find an option "acceptable to all" with the assistance of the ICC. "A logical option will be explored for the Champions Trophy in the next 24 to 48 hours," they said, adding that the boards will give their final opinio...

Is it dangerous to stifle a sneeze?

Image
It's a threat that could strike anyone, anywhere. Where will you be when it hits? You could be standing over beakers in a chemistry lab, carefully measuring droplets of acid into a vial. Or driving along a busy two-lane highway, trying to keep your composure as oncoming traffic zooms by. And, suddenly, there it is: an ear-splitting, saliva-spewing, nose-clearing sneeze. But what if you decided, just as the urge to sneeze peaked, to stop it? Would stifling your sneeze be dangerous? Blocking a sneeze from taking its natural course could cause bodily harm, but only in rare, worst-case instances. The explosion of air from your lungs could be redirected up and into the ears' Eustachian tubes. These delicate tubes are susceptible to injury — even a strong internal puff of air can rupture eardrums, cause vertigo (dizziness) or a hearing deficit. The force of the stopped sneeze also could push infected mucus into the Eustachian tube, where it could reach the middle ear and spread i...

Pakistan inflict 99-run defeat on Zimbabwe to win ODI series

Image
Pakistan on Thursday inflicted a 99 runs defeat on Zimbabwe in the third One Day International to win the series by 2-1 at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo on Thursday. Earlier, the Green Shirts won the toss and elected to bat first against the hosts. Kamran Ghulam's maiden century, followed by a combined bowling effort, steered Pakistan to a resounding victory over Zimbabwe in the ODI series decider. Chasing a daunting 304-run target, the home side only managed 204 despite skipper Craig Ervine's gutsy half-century. Zimbabwe got off to a shaky start to the run chase as they were reduced to 10/2 inside three overs. Following the slump, Ervine joined hands with Tadiwanashe Marumani and forged a cautious 39-run partnership, lasted with the latter's dismissal in the ninth over. Ervine was then involved in another crucial partnership, when he added 41 runs for the fourth wicket with Sean Williams before eventually falling victim to Aamir Jamal in the 26th over. He remained ...

Hybrid model for Champions Trophy not acceptable: PCB tells ICC

Image
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reached out to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to clarify its position on hosting the Champions Trophy 2025, amidst growing concerns over the hybrid model and its implications for future tournaments. According to sources, the PCB has firmly stated that playing a match against India at a neutral venue under the hybrid model is not acceptable. The board has urged the ICC to propose an acceptable playing formula before its upcoming board meeting. The PCB has also made it clear that if the hybrid model is enforced, Pakistan will not participate in future ICC events held in India. The sources said the PCB has urged the ICC to make a decision on this before its board meeting scheduled for tomorrow. An official response from the ICC is now awaited following PCB's clarification of its stance. Meanwhile, reacting to the uncertainty about the venue of the tournament, former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi remarked that by "intert...

Pakistan set 304-run target for Zimbabwe in third ODI

Image
Kamran Ghulam struck his maiden ODI century to help Pakistan post 303-6 in the third ODI of the three-match series against Zimbabwe here at Queens Sports Club on Thursday. Earlier, Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan opted to bat first and fielded an unchanged side. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe made two changes with Clive Madande and Faraz Akram coming in for Trevor Gwandu and Brandon Mavuta. Faraz Akram drew first blood for Zimbabwe as he removed Saim Ayub, who smashed a whirlwind century in the last match, in the 13th over with 58 runs on the board. Abdullah Shafique then added 54 runs for the second wicket with Kamran Ghulam to push Pakistan’s total to 112. However, Abdullah fell prey to Sikandar Raza after scoring 50 off 68. Kamran was joined by Rizwan, who scored 37 off 47, and together they built a solid 89-run partnership for the third wicket. Rizwan was also dismissed by Sikandar. After Rizwan’s dismissal, Kamran switched gears and completed his maiden ODI century before Richard Nga...

Shaheen replaced as top-ranked ODI bowler

Image
Pakistan’s ace pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has been replaced at the summit of the International Cricket Council (ICC) men’s ODI bowling rankings on Wednesday. As per the latest ranking update, the left-arm pacer was pipped by Afghanistan’s leg-spinner Rashid Khan, while South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj remained third. Shaheen Shah Afridi, who soared to the top after taking eight wickets at an average of 12.62 in Pakistan’s historic ODI series victory over Australia, was rested from the ongoing series against Zimbabwe. His bowling partner, Haris Rauf, who was named the Player of the Series in Pakistan’s 2-1 routing of Australia, also suffered a decline, slipping two places to 15th. Emerging opener Saim Ayub, who scored a swashbuckling century in Pakistan’s 10-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series on Tuesday, jumped 80 places to 90th in the men’s ODI batting rankings, continued to be led by star batter Babar Azam. On the other hand, India’s ri...

How to improve your skin with mint?

Image
If you take a whiff of mint, you can experience its cool, refreshing aroma. Imagine how your skin might feel if it were smoothed and caressed with it - would you experience the same feeling? The sensation can be addictive. Many people enjoy its taste in chewing gum, a cup of tea or other foods. But most people probably don't think of mint as something that can improve their health and beauty. Today, you can find mint in a variety of beauty products from shampoos to cleansers and moisturizers, and for good reason. The benefits of mint have been long known throughout history. The ancient Egyptians and ancient Romans prized it for its pleasant aroma, using it to scent the air in homes and temples. During the Middle Ages, people used mint as a cleaning agent and a way to purify drinking water. The early colonists bringing herbs to America praised mint for its therapeutic benefits, using it to treat fevers and influenza. If you take a look at the labels on beauty products, you may ...

ICC to decide fate of Pakistan’s Champions Trophy on Friday

Image
The International Cricket Council (ICC) will meet this week to determine the destiny of next year’s Champions Trophy after India refused to play in host nation Pakistan, a spokesman said on Tuesday. Earlier this month, the ICC informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that India would not tour Pakistan for the eight-team tournament, leaving the fate of the event hanging in the balance. A spokesman for the ICC based in Dubai told AFP they could “confirm an ICC meeting on Friday” where the issue will be on the agenda, without providing further details. The PCB has already rejected proposals that would allow India to play in a neutral third country, insisting the full schedule from February 19 to March 9 must be staged on their turf. India’s cricket board has not commented on the tournament. Deteriorating political ties mean bitter rivals India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral cricket series for over a decade — squaring off only in ICC multi-nation events. Pakistan suffere...

Image
Abrar Ahmed's four-wicket haul, followed by a quickfire century by Saim Ayub, propelled Pakistan to a crushing 10-wicket victory in the second ODI of the three-match series here at Queens Sports Club on Tuesday. Set to chase a modest 146, Pakistan comfortably amassed the total without losing a wicket and 190 balls to spare, thanks to Saim's blistering century. The left-handed batter dominated the match-winning partnership with sensational hitting, which saw him scoring his maiden ODI century in just 53 balls. His brisk century was the third-fastest by a Pakistan batter in men's ODIs, only behind legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi. Saim top-scored for Pakistan with an unbeaten 113 off just 62 balls, studded with 20 boundaries including three sixes, while Abdullah Shafique made 32 not out. Opting to bat first, Zimbabwe only managed 145 runs before getting bundled out in the 33rd over. The home side had a shaky start to their innings as their openers Tadiwanashe Marum...

According to international media reports, at NYU Langone Health in New York City, the breakthrough surgery was performed in October by Dr Stephanie Chang. Moreover, Chang performed a completely robotic single lung transplant, which was the country’s first, just a month before. For performing the minimally invasive transplants, Chang and her team use a da Vinci Xi robot. Between the ribs, they make small incisions, then use the robot to remove and replace the damaged lungs. Kohli blasts century as India declare against Australia

Image
Virat Kohli roared back to form with a vintage century against Australia on Sunday with India declaring their second innings when he achieved the feat in the first Test at Perth. The visitors made the call at 487-6 in the final session of day three, with an ominous 533-run lead. The 36-year-old star batsman Kohli came into the series under increasing scrutiny after managing only two Test tons in the last five years. He averaged just 15 in their recent humiliating 3-0 home series loss to New Zealand, sparking questions over whether he should still be an automatic selection. His cause was not helped when he fell for five in the first innings at Perth Stadium, but he responded defiantly on Sunday to leave Australia with a mountain to climb. Coming in when Devdutt Padikkal was out for 25, he played himself in and rode his luck to bring up a half-century before unleashing with a flurry of boundaries. Kohli completed his 30th Test century off 143 balls, with eight fours and two sixes...

Zimbabwe trump Pakistan by 80 runs through DLS method

Image
Zimbabwe defeated Pakistan through the Duckworth-Lewis (DLS) method by 80 runs in the first one-day international (ODI) of the three-match series on Sunday at Queens Sports Club. The hosts had posted a total of 206 runs after they were bundled out by the Green Shirts in 40.2 overs. Beginning their chase, Pakistan lost wickets in rapid succession taking them to 60/6 in the 21st over of the second innings. The match was then stopped due to rain and later called off, resulting in Zimbabwe to lead ODI series by 1-0. Earlier, Pakistan had won the toss and invited Zimbabwe to bat first. National side spinners — vice captain Salman Ali Agha and debutant Faisal Akram — destroyed Zimbabwe batting lineup for a modest total. Both took three wickets apiece. Aamir Jamal (42/1) and Mohammad Hasnain (43/1) turned out to be the most expensive bowlers for the Green Shirts. Zimbabwe’s Joylord Gumbie (15) got run out in sixth over, then his successor Dion Myers (8) was caught off Agha in 10th. ...

WHO says Mpox still a health emergency

Image
The Mpox outbreak continues to represent a public health emergency, the World Health Organization said. The WHO first declared the emergency in August, when an outbreak of a new form of mpox spread from the badly-hit Democratic Republic of Congo to neighbouring countries. The WHO had convened a meeting of its Emergency Committee and, agreeing with its advice, the WHO Director-General has determined that the upsurge of mpox continues to constitute a public health emergency of international concern. The decision is based on the rising number and continuing geographic spread of cases, operational challenges in the field and the need to mount and sustain a cohesive response across countries and partners, the WHO said. Mpox is a viral infection that spreads through close contact, and typically causes flu-like symptoms and pus-filled lesions. It is usually mild, but it can be lethal. This year, there have been more than 46,000 suspected cases across Africa, mainly in Congo, and more t...

This includes key players such as captain Mohammad Rizwan, Haris Rauf, Salman Ali Agha, Mohammad Irfan Khan, and Haseebullah Khan. Notably, star players Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah have been rested for the series to allow newer players an opportunity. The decision comes as part of the team's strategy to rotate key players during less high-profile tours. "We are giving younger talent the chance to prove themselves in this series," Rizwan said ahead of the team’s arrival. "It’s essential for our long-term planning." The series will begin with thr...

Head coach sheds light on Babar Azam's place in men's T20Is team

Image
Newly-appointed head coach of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team Aqib Javed touched on star batter Babar Azam’s inclusion and position in the T20I team. The former captain, who has been going through a tough patch across all formats of the game, also had an unimpressive run in the recent three-match T20I series against Australia where he only scored 47 runs at a meagre average of 15.66 and strike-rate of 142.42. Aqib while addressing the media in Lahore on Wednesday, was asked whether Babar would be considered for T20Is. “Senior players like Babar and Rizwan have a value. They performed over the years for Pakistan," he said. Earlier, commenting on Babar’s woes in the aforementioned series, former cricketer Basit Ali had claimed that the third T20I against Australia was the batter’s last in the format, since Aqib — one of the most vocal critiques of star batter — had taken the reins of the white-ball side. “As long as Aqib Javed is the head coach, this may be Babar Azam’s la...

Argentina close on World Cup as Messi helps Martinez level up with Maradona

Image
A second-half strike from Lautaro Martinez gave Argentina a 1-0 home win over Peru in South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday night, with the striker’s goal moving him level with Diego Maradona as the country’s fifth all-time scorer. The 27-year-old Inter Milan forward notched his 32nd international goal 10 minutes after the break, capitalising on a fine cross from Lionel Messi to fire home a half-volley into the top-right corner. “I’m happy because my whole family came and I always want to give my best. This year was very positive and luckily we closed it with a victory,” Martinez told local TV. “It was a spectacular year in terms of performance, goals, games played. We have to keep playing and improving day by day. Everyone wants to beat us. Argentina’s national team are always the main characters. There are things to improve but we have to continue on this path.” Until Martínez scored, Argentina’s best chance was in the 21st minute, when striker Julian Alva...

Babar, Rizwan suffer decline in ICC T20I Rankings

Image
Pakistan batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan experienced a drop in their positions in the latest ICC T20I Batting Rankings released on Wednesday. The Green Shirts suffered a humiliating whitewash in the three-match series, mainly courtesy of the team’s below-par batting performance. Babar managed a meagre 47 runs in the series at an average of 15.66 and a strike-rate of 142.42, meanwhile, Rizwan scored 16 runs in two games at a dismal strike-rate of 57.14. Consequently, both batters dropped one place each in the ICC T20I Batting Rankings. Mohammad Rizwan is currently in 6th place with 719 rating points, while Babar Azam has dropped from 4th to 5th place with 742 rating points. It’s worth noting that other than Babar and Rizwan, no Pakistani batter is among the top 50 batters in the T20I rankings, with Fakhar Zaman (64) being the third-highest-ranked batter from the country. Meanwhile, Indian batter Tilak Varma made a massive leap in the ICC T20I Batting Rankings, jumping a wh...

Is chocolate bad for your skin?

Image
You may have heard that eating chocolate can cause pimples. It's a little pearl of wisdom that's been passed down from generation to generation, leading people with acne-prone skin to try to cut chocolate out of their diets or blame their most recent breakout on too many sweets. There's only one little problem: It isn't true. The idea that chocolate causes acne is nothing more than a myth. Scientists and researchers have tried to find a link between breakouts and eating chocolate, but there's no evidence to support the claim. In fact, no specific foods have been proved to cause acne. However, a new study suggests there may be a link between high-glycemic foods -- such as white bread and pasta -- and breakouts. The American Acne & Rosacea Society is looking into the claim, but so far no definite conclusions have been drawn. This is good news if you're a chocolate lover trying to control blemishes -- but it doesn't mean you should indulge all the time...

PCB appoints Shahid Aslam as men's batting coach

The recently-concluded T20 international series against Australia, that Pakistan lost 3-0, has particularly been hurtful for its memories are freshly etched into minds. Earlier, sources privy to the development said newly-appointed interim white-ball head coach Aqib Javed had recommended Aslam for the post. Aslam has spent a number of years working as a support staff member for the Green Shirts. The white-ball tour of Zimbabwe will be his first assi...

Lentils: Natural weight-loss food

Image
Lentils are brimming with fiber, which is crucial to satisfying your hunger and reducing your appetite. This food is rich in soluble fiber, which also lowers blood cholesterol as it gives you that full feeling you need to avoid temptation and help with weight loss. Not only that, but because they boast a bevy of nutrients, lentils are finally gaining the recognition they deserve as a great source of low-fat protein, making them the perfect substitute for meat. They are in the legume category and can be considered a vegetable or a protein, but not both at the same meal. The 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans suggest eating about three cups of legumes each week to maintain a healthy diet. Health Benefits Lentils' high fiber content is a boon to health; it's mostly the soluble kind, so it lowers blood cholesterol by creating gels that bind with bile acids, forcing the body to use cholesterol to replace them. These gels also tie up carbohydrates, so they are absorbed more s...
