Mohammad Nazir Junior, former Pakistan Test cricketer and renowned umpire, has passed away at the age of 78.

His son Noman Nazir confirmed on Tuesday.

Who was Nazir Junior?

Nazir Junior was celebrated for his skillful spin bowling and represented Pakistan in 14 Test matches and four One Day Internationals (ODIs), claiming a total of 37 wickets.

He made history by becoming the first spinner to take seven wickets in the first innings of his debut Test, a remarkable achievement that remains one of his career highlights.

In addition to his playing career, Nazir Junior made his mark as an umpire, officiating in 15 ODIs and five Test matches. He was widely respected for his deep knowledge of the game and his contributions to nurturing young cricketing talent.

Nazir had been critically ill for the past week and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital before his passing. His death is a great loss to Pakistan's cricketing community.
