Muhammad Nawaz under scrutiny after failing drug test

Image
All-rounder Muhammad Nawaz on Wednesday tested positive for recreational drug use. The development has put him under the scanner of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The 32-year-old all-rounder, who is currently representing Multan Sultans in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, was reportedly flagged during testing conducted at the T20 World Cup earlier this year. A PCB spokesperson confirmed that the matter has been formally taken up after communication from the International Cricket Council (ICC). “The ICC has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about this matter, and the PCB has begun the due process. The results of this process will be communicated to the ICC today,” the spokesperson stated. As a result, he will no longer be able to play for Surrey for England’s T20 Blast. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a one-year ban on Sri Lanka's Dasun Shanaka from participation in the next edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), citing contractual violations. Shanaka was signed by defending champions Lahore Qalandars for Rs7.5 million in the accelerated round of the inaugural players auction, held in February this year. But just three days before the commencement of the ongoing PSL 11, the franchise confirmed that the Sri Lankan all-rounder has withdrawn due to personal reasons and was replaced by Australia's Daniel Sams in the squad. In a statement, the PCB said it conducted a comprehensive assessment of recent contractual developments involving Shanaka and Lahore Qalandars, after the player withdrew from the tournament on March 21, 2026. The board concluded that the unilateral withdrawal amounted to a clear breach of the player registration terms and the tripartite agreement. It further noted that the reasons cited for the withdrawal...

The Gladiators' victory meant that Zalmi's tally of 13 points can no longer be toppled by the fourth-placed side by the end of the league stage. Peshawar Zalmi started their PSL 11 campaign with a commanding five-wicket victory over debutants Rawalpindiz in the high-scoring affair, while their subsequent fixture against Islamabad United was washed out due to rain in Lahore. Bangladesh restrict New Zealand to 247-8 in first one day

Image
Henry Nicholls hit a fine 68 before disciplined Bangladesh bowlers restricted New Zealand to 247-8 in the opening one-day international in Dhaka on Friday. New Zealand, who won the toss and chose to bat in what is the first of a three-match ODI series, were tested early by left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam, drafted in at the last minute to replace Mustafizur Rahman due to knee discomfort. Shoriful, who last played an ODI in December 2024, created an immediate impact, removing opener Nick Kelly for seven and conceding just nine runs in his first five overs, while also creating two further chances. Nicholls then anchored the innings with a composed 68 off 83 balls, hitting nine fours for his 17th ODI half-century. The 34-year-old stitched together useful partnerships with Will Young (30) and captain Tom Latham (14) to steady the innings after the early setback. Young survived an early drop on one off Shoriful but fell to leg-spinner Rishad Hossain while attempting a reverse sweep, ed...

High cholesterol: the ‘silent killer’ that raises heart disease and stroke risks

Image
High cholesterol is often described by medical experts as a “silent” health condition that can develop for years without noticeable symptoms, while gradually increasing the risk of serious complications affecting the heart, brain and other vital organs. Health specialists say many people only discover the problem once it has already progressed into a serious medical condition such as heart disease or stroke. Cholesterol is a fat-like substance present in the blood, produced naturally by the liver and also obtained through diet, particularly from meat, fish, eggs and dairy products. While essential for hormone production, cell structure and vitamin D synthesis, excess levels can become dangerous. Doctors explain that cholesterol is broadly divided into two types: high-density lipoprotein (HDL), often referred to as “good” cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), known as “bad” cholesterol. HDL helps remove excess fat from the bloodstream, while LDL can accumulate in blood ...

The monumental stand was eventually broken by Amir in the 12th over when he outfoxed Philippe with a slower delivery, who remained a notable run-getter for the Sultans with a brisk 56 off 30 deliveries, comprising six fours and...
