PCB to send Wahab Riaz to Maldives for ICC coaching workshop

Wahab Riaz
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that former selection committee member Wahab Riaz will participate in an upcoming coaching workshop organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in the Maldives.

The workshop, scheduled for July 29-30, will be a two-day high-performance event. Alongside Riaz, Shahid Anwar, the head coach of the National Cricket Academy, will also represent Pakistan at this prestigious workshop, as stated by the PCB.

This initiative will focus on disseminating cutting-edge coaching techniques, while also exploring methods to scout and nurture talent from the grassroots level.

Moreover, the PCB has confirmed that Dr. Imran Abbas, General Manager of Academies, will attend a four-day ICC Level-2 Tutors training course, starting from July 24 in Malé.

Part of the ICC’s broader education and training agenda, this workshop intends to equip member nations with highly qualified Level 2 tutors, who will subsequently train coaches within their regions.

Notably, the ICC has entrusted renowned former players Iqbal Sikander from Pakistan and Amin-ul-Islam, a former Test captain of Bangladesh, with the responsibility of conducting the course.

It’s important to highlight that Wahab Riaz and former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq were removed from PCB’s seven-member selection committee on July 10. This shake-up followed Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024.

Reports have emerged suggesting that Riaz faced allegations of attempting to exert undue influence during team selections, a claim he has firmly denied. In response to his removal, Riaz took to social media platform X to refute any such suggestions, insisting that all decisions made during his tenure at the PCB were thoroughly documented.

“I reject the narratives about adding pressure on selection committee members; how can one vote outweigh six? Everything is recorded in the meeting minutes,” Wahab Riaz stated.
